Study in Canada Scholarships

Study in Canada Scholarships aim to expand possibilities for Canadian post-secondary institutions to accept International students coming from a broad spectrum of nations and territories who are on short-term exchanges to research or study. The program will give institutions with the chance to enhance and broaden their international connections as well as promote their research and academic excellence in the new markets.

The new connections made through the program will expand and enhance Canada’s engagement in education with a variety of partners. It will also strengthen the bilateral relationship, and help to complement the government of Canada’s overall international trade diversification initiatives.

The Study in Canada Scholarships is an exchange program for short-term duration in Canadian Global Affairs’ International Scholarships Program.

Elegebility

In order to be considered eligible for the program,:

  • the citizen of an eligible territory or country
    • Asia: Bangladesh, Nepal, Taiwan
    • Europe: Turkiye, Ukraine
    • Middle East and North Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia
    • Sub-Saharan Africa: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda
  • Full-time student at an institution of postsecondary education in a country or territory that is eligible.
  • payment of tuition charges to the establishment at time of your application and for the time of your exchange

This scholarship is not available to you if: this scholarship if you:

  • you have or are awaiting an application pending to apply for Canadian residency or citizenship. residence
  • You are currently enrolled in a program for scholarships that is supported through Canada’s Government of Canada
  • you’re currently you are enrolled in a degree certificate or diploma program at an Canadian post-secondary institution

Canadian postsecondary institutions that are who are interested in hosting students have to:

  • could be an Designated Education Institute (DLI)
  • have a valid student exchange agreement with the student’s home institution that waives tuition fees for scholarship recipients (required for college/undergraduate study only)

Eligible expenses

Students who are selected may apply for scholarships to pay for:

  • Visa or study/work permit costs
  • flight on the cheapest and most direct route
  • health insurance
  • costs of living, like housing, utilities, and food costs.
  • ground transportation, such as the use of a public transportation card
  • the books and other materials needed to conduct their studies or research not including computer equipment and computers

Canadian institutions can be eligible for:

  • A scholarship award of $500 will help with the administrative costs after the student has arrived in Canada
  • the reimbursement of additional compliance costs which are paid in addition to the fees paid by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in certain cases

How does funding work

Canadian institutions will be receiving funding through Global Affairs Canada, through its legal name, Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) through an un-negotiable contribution agreement. is responsible for distributing the money to students who are successful in accordance with its internal procedures. If a student is not able to accept the award, Canadian institutions must return all money, including the administrative cost the administrative fee, to DFATD.

Conditions for students who are successful

Students who are selected for a scholarship are required to:

  • take part in full-time study or research, as defined by the Canadian institution
  • do not participate in any clinical-oriented training or research that involves direct patient care
  • Concentrate on full-time study and research throughout your time in Canada
  • Return to your home institution following the scholarship period to finish your studies

Failure to adhere to these conditions could cause the denial of your award.

Additional information

  • The scholarships cannot be rescinded and cannot be renewed.
  • Scholarships are contingent upon the availability of funds from Government of Canada
  • The scholarships aren’t tax-deductible on either Canadian organization or for the recipient
  • Students are required to return to their homes following the end of the scholarship period to finish their study
